The potential use of bacteriophages as antibacterial agents in dental infection
Dental infections are linked to specific bacterial species, and antibiotics are widely used for treatment. However, antimicrobial resistance has led to the development of pan-resistant strains and the lack of viable alternatives. Phages, a harmless virus capable of infecting and eliminating bacteria, are being considered as a potential alternative to antibiotics. Research has focused on studying phages from human saliva and dental plaque to control oral disorders like periodontitis and dental caries.
